My Story...

It all started when I was very young. This passion for making, eating and sharing food, even back then, was about as big and important to me as my love of the outdoors, travel and adventure.

Some of my earliest memories of backpacking the world with my parents, camping in the Australian bush and growing up in a typical Brisbane neighbourhood, were usually connected to vivid recollections of something I ate, or smelled, or cooked or hated the taste of.

Food in all its boringly normal and fabulously exotic interpretations was simply the way I experienced my immediate environment. And how I showed my love for myself and others.

Beautiful design is another passion. With 20 years working in the fashion design industry under my belt and another 12 in architectural building and construction, I do like to bring together this penchant for loveliness to my gorgeous long lunch tables and plates of food.

And though I have never worked professionally in the restaurant business, I always knew I would end up doing the thing I love the most. Cooking, hosting, feeding, setting pretty tables and organising fabulous celebrations.

Mrs Frost's Kitchen is my happiest place to be and I hope that when you come to visit, you will be happy also.

Cheers

Julie xx

Farm life...

From the moment my husband and I first laid eyes on this property, back in 2017, we fell in love with it's peace and quiet, the privacy and its natural beauty.  It was incredibly only 35 minutes drive from the Gold Coast beaches and perfect for the weekend getaway we were looking for. It had not much more than a muddy track, some run down fences and a small herd of the neighbours cattle going for it and needed a whole lot of 'infrastructure' to make it our nirvana.

Fast forward 12 months and we had permanently given up the city life, built a modest house and moved to the farm to become beef cattle producers. Which certainly wasn't Mr Frost's first rodeo but I was a total green horn to this rural living. But turns out, I was a natural cowgirl, farm hand and off-grider.

What's on the plate...

Generosity, deliciousness, my love, freshness and interesting flavours is what you will find on the plate at Mrs Frost's Kitchen.

Many guests planning their long lunch here, ask me what my style or preferred cuisine is. And while I loosely lean toward Italian, middle eastern or Asian, the decisions I make with regards the menu have more to do with what fresh seasonal produce is available at the time and what dishes share well amongst a gathering of friends. I love putting together a combination of courses that pair interesting flavours, that look gorgeous on the plate and embrace all that I personally love about preparing and sharing food with my own nearest and dearest.

You will not leave hungry as I, like many home cooks, live with a constant fear of under-feeding my guests. That said, I really hate waste too (there's only so much my chickens and Bruce the kelpie, can eat!) which is why I work closely with each of my lunch hosts designing the perfect menu to satisfy their group. And then the menu is set in stone, the final guest numbers locked in and I begin preparing to cook up a storm. Just for you!
